on the origin of species

This is an original, one of a kind, acrylic painting. It started as a pen drawing on a textured canvas panel; created in a sort of dreamlike, meditative state where I let my pen scribble randomly upon the canvas until images emerged. This painting is my subconscious tribute to Charles Darwin, who wrote his famous "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life" in 1859.

dream 06092010
i opted not to take the taxi when i saw my own car parked in the distance. i waved goodbye to my girlfriends in the taxi and walked toward my car. as i approached my car i could see it had been sideswiped. the driver-side door was torn off. when i got closer i saw the steering wheel was missing as well. the taxi with friends was well out of site by this stage, so i figured my only option was to beg for money for a phone call. a stranger kindly gave me 2 shiny new quarters.

the reason to exist
escapes me sometimes.
i stumble through my clutter.
following the same unwinding ball of string.
never has yesterday felt so far away
or tomorrow so close.
nor fear so constant.
i wash the clothes
i dry the clothes
i iron the clothes
but they don’t fit.
they never did.
they never will.
someone elses
not mine.
escapes me sometimes.
i stumble through my clutter.
following the same unwinding ball of string.
never has yesterday felt so far away
or tomorrow so close.
nor fear so constant.
i wash the clothes
i dry the clothes
i iron the clothes
but they don’t fit.
they never did.
they never will.
someone elses
not mine.
